Rooted in Japanese workwear tradition, the Kimono Shirt takes inspiration from the noragi — practical garments worn by craftsmen and laborers for everyday work. Naked and Famous translates that heritage into a modern silhouette with relaxed proportions and effortless layering potential.
The real highlight is the fabric. Woven in Japan, the 12.2oz Maekake Dobby fabric draws from traditional maekake aprons once used by sake brewers and market workers. Historically, these aprons were densely woven to withstand heat, friction, and constant wear. The dobby loom construction creates a richly textured indigo surface with subtle depth and tonal variation throughout. After weaving, the fabric is rinsed to soften the hand and enhance the layered character of the indigo.
Inside the neck and shoulder area, a traditional Japanese-inspired lining with a repeating Seigaiha-style wave motif adds another subtle cultural reference.
Part overshirt, part jacket, part traditional workwear layer — this is the kind of piece that becomes more personal the longer you wear it.
