Studio D'Artisan

Studio D Artisan

In 1979, Shigeharu Tagaki founded the Studio D'Artisan brand in Osaka. In the beginning, he reproduced classic jeans and brought in the essence of French and American workwear. But soon after, Tagaki-san not only developed his own designs, but also began to create revolutionary new denims and fabrics. Today, SDA is known far beyond Japan for its own creations and the revival of traditional dyeing and weaving techniques - be it through elaborate sashiko embroidery, loving dobby or jacquard weaving or almost forgotten natural black or mud dyeing techniques. In keeping with its motto “Reconstruction of great old things”, the oldest member of the Osaka 5 is very unconventional in a positive sense, in order to continuously test the limits of what is possible in terms of quality. The jeans in the G3 series are made exclusively on Toyoda G-3 mechanical looms, which are considered to be the best traditional looms in the world. For their Suvin Gold collections, they primarily use the cotton of the same name, which is considered the “queen” of the finest long-staple cotton.
