Freenote Cloth ‘Modesto’ 13oz Natural Indigo Selvedge Jeans – Wide Straight

The Modesto is Freenote Cloth’s take on classic American workwear denim: high rise, roomy through the top block, and cut with a full straight leg that falls naturally over boots. The silhouette feels relaxed and functional from the start, echoing the proportions of vintage work pants without feeling oversized or exaggerated.

For this version, Freenote returned to one of the first fabrics the brand ever developed. Together with Kuroki Mills in Japan, co-founder Matt Brodrick recreated a custom 13oz natural indigo selvedge denim woven exclusively for Freenote Cloth. The fabric combines a natural indigo warp with a vintage-inspired beige weft and an unsinged surface that gives the denim a slightly hairy texture reminiscent of deadstock denim from the mid-century era. The lighter shade and softer contrast create more subtle, naturally worn-in fades over time.

Built in Southern California with Freenote’s signature attention to detail, the Modesto features a two-piece waistband, flat-felled seams, reinforced pockets, custom hardware, and vintage Japanese herringbone pocket bags. Each pair is rinsed after construction for a softer hand feel and minimal shrinkage, making this one of the easiest wearing selvedge jeans in the lineup.
