TSPTR x Peanuts ‘Altamont‘ T-Shirt – Vintage White

California, December 6, 1969. What was intended as the West Coast answer to Woodstock became one of the defining moments in American counterculture. The Altamont Free Festival, headlined by the Rolling Stones, drew hundreds of thousands to a barren speedway outside San Francisco — with the Hells Angels controversially enlisted as security.

As tensions escalated throughout the day, 18-year-old Meredith Hunter was fatally stabbed near the stage. The violence at Altamont would come to symbolize something much larger: the dark end of the idealism that had defined the 1960s.

The events were captured in the Maysles brothers and Charlotte Zwerin’s landmark 1970 documentary “Gimme Shelter.” What had been planned as the triumphant finale to the Stones’ 1969 American tour instead became an unfiltered document of a cultural turning point.

TSPTR approaches this history with its characteristic dark humor. Snoopy’s alter ego Woodstock appears beneath a stars-and-stripes motorcycle helmet, transformed into the unlikely mascot of the fictional “Altamont Security Services.” The graphic plays with the mythology surrounding Altamont, biker culture, and the collapse of the peace-and-love era — without turning the event itself into a punchline.
