The Studio D’Artisan D5732 Kakishibu Denim Shirt brings together traditional Japanese dyeing culture and classic workwear construction. At first glance it looks understated, but the warm earthy tone reveals something far more unusual: the denim warp yarns are dyed with natural kakishibu – fermented persimmon tannin, a plant-based dye used in Japan for centuries.

This traditional technique, often referred to as sun dyeing, develops its character through oxidation. As the fabric is exposed to sunlight, air, and everyday wear, the color gradually deepens and evolves. What begins as a warm reddish-brown tone slowly matures into a richer, darker shade, giving the shirt a living patina that becomes unique to its owner.

The 13oz denim fabric itself reflects Studio D’Artisan’s obsession with texture. Slub and nep yarns in the warp combine with a highly irregular weft, creating vertical streaking and natural tonal variation that cannot be replicated through synthetic dyeing. The result is a fabric with depth, movement, and a distinctly organic feel.

Construction follows classic workwear principles. Two chest pockets, selvedge gussets, and chainstitch runoffs reinforce durability, while the clean silhouette keeps the shirt versatile enough to wear as both a shirt and a light overshirt.
