Spellbound M-43 Military Smock Anorak - Indigo Navy

The Spellbound M-43 Military Smock Anorak takes inspiration from the U.S. Army M-43 Anorak, a pullover smock developed during World War II. Originally designed to provide protection against wind and changing weather conditions while allowing room for additional layers, the M-43 remains a distinctive example of functional military clothing. Spellbound faithfully reinterprets its utilitarian design with Japanese craftsmanship, combining authentic details with a relaxed, contemporary silhouette.

What makes this version particularly special is its indigo-dyed cotton-nylon fabric (70/30). Unlike conventional navy fabrics, the rich, dark indigo color is designed to develop character with wear and washing, gradually revealing lighter blue tones along seams, folds, and areas exposed to friction. A long-wash treatment brings out the fabric's naturally crinkled texture, enhanced by the different shrinkage characteristics of cotton and nylon. The result is a lightweight yet durable material with a distinctive vintage appearance that will continue to evolve over time.

The anorak retains the original's practical construction, including a four-button high collar, adjustable hood, and large dual-entry front pocket with buttoned flaps. Drawstrings at the hood, waist, and hem allow the silhouette to be adjusted, while buttoned cuffs provide additional protection. Leather reinforcements at the hood eyelets and hem add a traditional finishing touch. The hood also features reinforced eyelets and rear snap buttons for adjusting its shape and depth.

Cut in a generous oversized A-line silhouette, the smock offers excellent freedom of movement and plenty of room for layering. Combining military heritage, thoughtful construction, and the unique aging qualities of indigo, this Japanese-made anorak becomes increasingly individual with every wear.
