Pure Blue Japan DNP-019-IDSM 16oz Double Nep Indigo Sumi Selvedge Denim – Relaxed Tapered

Pure Blue Japan’s DNP-019-IDSM combines two distinctive Japanese denim techniques in one exceptionally textured fabric. The proprietary 16oz Double Nep selvedge denim is woven in Okayama using irregular nep yarns for both the warp and weft, creating PBJ’s characteristic rough, three-dimensional surface with pronounced flecks and knots throughout.

The warp is indigo dyed, while the weft is dyed with sumi, a traditional Japanese black ink based on natural charcoal. Instead of the brighter appearance created by a conventional undyed weft, the dark sumi yarn adds depth to the indigo and gives the denim its smoky blue-black tone. With wear and washing, the contrasting dyes and highly irregular yarns promise particularly expressive fading and evolving texture.

The monochromatic character continues through the black deerskin leather patch, tonal Shoai leaf embroidery, and dark stitching. Traditional construction includes iron buttons, hidden rivets, roped belt loops, chain-stitched hems and waistband, and PBJ’s signature blue selvedge ID.

Cut in the 019 relaxed tapered fit, the jeans feature a comfortable rise, generous room through the waist and thighs, and a pronounced taper from the knee toward the hem.
