The Sugiaya Herringbone Chore Coat takes a classic workwear staple and refines it through Japanese textile precision. Cut in a traditional chore coat silhouette with generous room through the chest and arms, it’s designed for ease of movement and everyday layering without feeling bulky or stiff.

The fabric is the real story here. Woven in Japan, the 12oz Sugiaya cloth is woven on a dobby loom, allowing for precise control over the herringbone structure. Rather than relying on a traditional continuous twill, the dobbyweave creates a tightly programmed, rhythmic pattern with short directional changes.

Known as Sugiaya, the structure references the subtle, cedar-like grain suggested by the tightly defined V-shaped pattern. After weaving, the fabric is rinsed to soften the hand and gently plump the yarns, giving the surface a tactile, three-dimensional texture that becomes more expressive with wear. Indigo dyeing ensures subtle contrast and depth as the coat ages.

Finished with tonal stitching, durable buttons, four functional patch pockets, and a Horween Chromexcel Cavalier Ink leather patch, this is a piece that works hard — and looks better the longer you live in it.
