The Indigofera Deity Project continues with its third collaboration with Swedish artist Björn Atldax. Woven in Norway from 100% Norwegian wool, The Fifth Sun transforms the Aztec creation myth into a richly detailed textile artwork centered around sacrifice, transformation, and renewal.

According to Aztec cosmology, the world had already passed through four cycles of creation and destruction before the birth of the Fifth Sun. At Teotihuacan, the gods Nanahuatzin and Tecciztecatl were chosen to sacrifice themselves in fire to bring light to the new world. Nanahuatzin courageously entered the flames first and became the Sun. Tecciztecatl followed, but when two equally brilliant suns appeared, the gods diminished his light by throwing a rabbit at his face — transforming him into the Moon.

Atldax translates the story across the blanket in two contrasting panels, surrounded by imagery referencing the earlier worlds and the myth's recurring themes of destruction and rebirth. The result is both a functional wool blanket and a striking piece of narrative textile art.

Like all Indigofera blankets, it is woven by a family-owned mill in central Norway with more than 80 years of experience, where the wool is spun, dyed, and woven in-house. Warm, substantial, and made to last, The Fifth Sun works equally well as a blanket, travel companion, or wall piece.
