Warehouse Co. Lot 2008 13.5oz 1947 ‘MJ Pre-Rodeo’ Selvedge Denim Jacket – Indigo

The Warehouse Lot 2008 1947 MJ (Men’s Jacket) Pre-Rodeo Jacket takes us back to the very beginning of Wrangler’s Western wear era in 1947. Rather than reproducing one of the better-known later cowboy jackets, Warehouse focuses on an exceptionally early transitional design from the period when denim workwear was being adapted specifically for life in the saddle.

Its Western identity is immediately visible in the two low-set flap chest pockets with decorative stitching, the distinctive front pleats and the adjustable waist tabs at the back. Small action pleats at the shoulders provide additional freedom of movement – an early construction detail that reflects the jacket’s functional cowboy origins.

Warehouse developed a 13.5oz left-hand twill denim from a 7 × 7 yarn blend of American cotton to recreate the character of the original fabric. Unlike the right-hand twill commonly associated with classic five-pocket denim, left-hand twill develops its own distinctive surface and is particularly known for pronounced vertical fading with wear.

Period-inspired details continue with iron tack buttons and a vegetable-tanned deerskin leather label, while the short, balanced silhouette retains the unmistakable proportions of an early Western denim jacket.

The denim is Sanforized, just as the historical fabric was. While Warehouse normally supplies this model rigid, our jackets have been rinsed before sale. This removes most of the initial shrinkage, relaxes the fabric and makes the jacket ready to wear while leaving plenty of potential for individual fading and aging.

Paired with the matching Lot 1008 1947 MW Pre-Rodeo Jeans, it forms Warehouse’s interpretation of an extremely rare 1947 Western denim setup from the formative years of Wrangler.
