Rooted in the history of American athletic and military clothing, the Buzz Rickson’s Set-In Crew Sweatshirt faithfully recreates the classic mid-century sweatshirt. Originally developed as practical sportswear, cotton sweatshirts became everyday essentials thanks to their warmth, comfort, and moisture-absorbing properties. Buzz Rickson’s preserves this heritage through traditional Japanese manufacturing techniques and authentic vintage construction.

At its heart is a substantial 13oz loopwheel cotton fabric, slowly knitted on vintage Japanese circular knitting machines. Operating at low tension, these machines produce a naturally flexible fabric with a distinctive texture and exceptional comfort. The softly brushed interior provides warmth, while the tubular body construction eliminates side seams, ensuring a comfortable fit and clean silhouette.

Construction remains true to traditional American sportswear. Four-needle flatlock stitching creates durable, low-profile seams, while set-in sleeves maintain the classic athletic shape. A distinctive single V-shaped ribbed insert, sewn onto the neckline in the traditional slamming V style, recalls early sweatshirt construction. Substantial ribbed cuffs, collar, and waistband complete the design.

This heavyweight sweatshirt gradually softens with wear and washing, developing the comfortable, lived-in character that makes Japanese loopwheel sweatshirts so appealing.
