Over 20 years ago, a renowned American denim maker introduced a new fit to offer one of their icons to customers who preferred a more modern, athletic look — and in doing so, created another icon, called the 511 that would go on to become a classic. Perhaps this story was also on Toru Nogami’s mind when he crafted the Samurai Jeans S511XX19ozII, made from the brand’s legendary 19oz Kiwami Selvedge Denim. Slowly woven from slubby #5 warp and #4 weft yarns, the result is a fabric with an uneven, three-dimensional surface that softens over time and gains character with each wear.
This heavyweight Denim is rich in details proving Samurai’s eye for perfection, as seen in their famous silver thread selvedge ID nods to the sharpness of katana blades, pocket bags are woven with the characters 諸行無常 (Shogyo Mujo) - “all things must pass” - and the leather patch depicts the legendary duel between Musashi and Kojiro one of the most iconic Samurai sword fights in Japanese history.
The slim tapered fit offers still room through the seat and thigh with a clean taper down the leg, forming a modern silhouette designed to evolve over time.
