Prequel 6.5oz French Coverall Summer Jacket – White

Built around the same remarkable fabric as Prequel's Officer's Summer Pants, the French Coverall Jacket combines two different elements of French military history: a workwear-inspired jacket from the 1930s and 1940s and an Oxford cloth reconstructed from original French Army officer summer trousers.

For the 6.5oz Summer Oxford, Prequel studied an original 1930s garment down to its yarn thickness, irregularities and weave density. Different slub yarns are used for the warp and weft, recreating the distinctive depth and slightly uneven surface of the vintage cloth. Lightweight and breathable yet durable, it gives the jacket an unusually rich character for a summer-weight fabric.

The design itself is deceptively simple. Its relaxed coverall silhouette is defined by a button front, open collar and adjustable button cuffs, but the real centerpiece is the extraordinary oversized asymmetrical patch pocket on the left side. Extending across much of the front, its sweeping curved shape recalls the generous utility pockets found on traditional hunting and field garments. A second patch pocket on the opposite side balances the design while emphasizing the jacket's functional origins.

Finished in White, the tonal construction allows the unusual pocket geometry, seams and textured Oxford weave to do the talking. Worn on its own or together with the matching Officer's Summer Pants, it is a particularly strong example of Prequel's approach: historical references reconstructed through exceptional Japanese fabric development and made relevant for today.
