Buzz Rickson’s Cold Weather Type A-2 Deck Jacket – Woodland Camouflage

This revived-with-soul interpretation of the U.S. Navy A-2 Deck Jacket captures the evolution of one of the Navy’s most enduring designs. Introduced in the early 1960s as the successor to the N-1, the A-2 remained in service for nearly three decades — a testament to its functional excellence and adaptability.

While earlier versions were constructed from heavy cotton back satin, this later model introduced a durable 50/50 cotton-nylon shell, developed for improved strength, reduced weight, and faster drying times at sea. The woodland camouflage version, newly introduced alongside the olive model, reflects the 1980s generation worn by naval personnel during training and coastal operations. Inside, a soft nylon-pile lining (70% polyester, 30% acrylic) provides warmth, while wool storm cuffs seal out cold and wind. Authentic details include mil-spec urea buttons, a brass CONMATIC zipper, and adjustable waist tabs for a refined fit.
