John Lofgren Bootmaker shoes are masterpieces, and the Japanese brand carries a global reputation for unique quality – the M-43 Service Shoe is perhaps the most well-known model and an icon in the Lofgren universe.
The namesake and inspiration for this modern interpretation is the service shoe introduced by the U.S. Army in 1943. Steve McQueen wore it in The Great Escape, elevating this shoe to iconic status.
Based on the Munson last and largely handmade in Japan, the numerous small construction details are perhaps the most impressive: natural, roughout Horween Chromexcel cowhide, unstructured toe, single, triple, and quadruple stitch construction, “Made in USA”-Vibram soles and heels, and a Goodyear welt made in the UK.
In short, the M-43 sets standards in terms of craftsmanship, comfort, and materials, combining the best of traditional craftsmanship and modern boot aesthetics.
