Samurai Jeans SSS26-KSK 10oz ‘Kanoko Aimadara’ Work Shirt – Indigo / Brown

Some fabrics are designed. Others feel as though they have simply evolved over time. Samurai's original Kanoko Aimadara sashiko fabric belongs firmly to the latter category.

Inspired by the distinctive markings of a young fawn, the shirt takes its name from the Japanese word kanoko, which refers both to a fawn and to the scattered dot pattern traditionally associated with Japanese textile arts. To recreate this appearance, Samurai combines yarns dyed in a proprietary blend of natural and synthetic indigo with contrasting brown threads. Woven using traditional sashiko techniques, the result is a remarkably textured fabric with extraordinary depth and character.

What makes this fabric even more fascinating is the way it develops with wear. Indigo yarns are strategically placed in the raised sashiko sections, where friction occurs most frequently. As the indigo gradually fades, the distinctive spotted pattern becomes increasingly pronounced, ensuring that every shirt evolves differently over time.

Despite its substantial 10oz weight, the fabric remains breathable and surprisingly comfortable, making it ideal for year-round wear. Traditional workwear details include triple-needle chainstitch construction, side gussets with chainstitch runoff, two flap chest pockets, and beautifully finished nut buttons.
