Samurai Jeans S552PX-BR 15oz ‘Kanoko’ Selvedge Type II Jacket – Brown

The S552PX-BR is Samurai Jeans' interpretation of the classic Type II denim jacket, crafted from the same remarkable 15oz Kanoko selvedge denim used for the S0150BRX jeans. Inspired by a little-known chapter of denim history, the fabric pays tribute to the brief period during which brown military denim was produced using plant-based dyes as an alternative to indigo.

Woven in Japan from 100% Texas cotton slub yarn, the denim displays a richly textured surface with a distinctive nep character. Instead of traditional indigo dye, Samurai employs Suren dye, a colourfast dye historically associated with military garments. As a result, the fabric develops a unique ageing pattern, gradually softening into deeper and richer shades of brown rather than creating the high-contrast fades commonly associated with indigo denim.

The name Kanoko, meaning "fawn pattern", references the young deer, a long-standing symbol of summer in Japanese culture and a creature traditionally regarded as a sacred messenger of the gods. This symbolism is echoed in the beautifully embossed leather patch and the carefully considered details found throughout the jacket.

Samurai's interpretation of the iconic Type II silhouette combines a timeless cut with practical details such as action pleats for improved freedom of movement, side-tab adjusters, flap chest pockets and the brand's signature iron pine tree buttons.

Equally at home when worn on its own or combined with the matching S0150BRX jeans, this is a rare and distinctive piece that showcases an entirely different side of Japanese selvedge denim.
