Samurai Jeans S0150BRX 15oz ‘Kanoko’ Selvedge Jeans – Brown / Regular Straight

Most denim enthusiasts spend years chasing the perfect shade of indigo. With the S0150BRX, Samurai Jeans takes a different path. Inspired by a rare period in the early twentieth century when material shortages led to the temporary use of plant-based dyes in military garments, this exceptional fabric pays tribute to a largely forgotten chapter in denim history.

The 15oz Kanoko denim is woven in Japan from 100% Texas cotton slub yarn and features a richly textured surface with a distinctive nep character. Rather than using traditional indigo, Samurai opted for Suren dye, a colourfast dye historically found in military garments. Instead of developing dramatic high-contrast fades, the fabric gradually evolves into softer, deeper shades of brown while preserving its warm and earthy character.

The name Kanoko, meaning "fawn pattern", refers to the young deer, an animal deeply rooted in Japanese culture and poetry and long regarded as a sacred messenger of the gods. This theme is reflected throughout the design, from the beautifully embossed leather patch to the exclusive flasher and the intricately woven Shogyo Mujo jacquard pocket bags.

Cut in Samurai's classic S0150 regular straight silhouette, the jeans combine a medium-high rise with a comfortable top block and a clean, timeless leg shape.
