Buzz Rickson's X William Gibson M-43 Boots - Black Roughout

The Buzz Rickson’s William Gibson Black M-43 Boots pay homage to one of the most functional and iconic service shoes ever issued by the U.S. Army. Originally introduced in 1943 under Quartermaster Specification 110, the Type III Service Shoe marked a turning point in military footwear design—built for endurance, not parade polish. Its roughout cowhide upper, turned inside-out to expose the suede side, offered superior resistance to dirt, moisture, and wear, eliminating the need for polishing in the field.

This all-black interpretation, part of the William Gibson Collection, takes the wartime original into a modern context. Every component—from the stitched welt to the riveted eyelets and waxed cotton laces—is rendered in deep black for a uniform, understated look.

Handcrafted in Japan using Goodyear storm welt construction, vegetable-tanned roughout leather, and Lite Tread rubber soles, the Black M-43 combines field-proven durability with timeless design. A true continuation of 1940s utility—rebuilt to last a lifetime.
