The design of this Samurai Jeans T-shirt draws inspiration from a legendary tale of the Kamakura period (1185–1333), depicting Wada Tanenaga, a samurai who, in complete darkness, slew a giant serpent with a single sword in a cave at the foot of Mount Fuji, restoring peace to the land.
The artwork reflects the influence of musha-e, a genre of Edo-period ukiyo-e paintings that celebrate heroic warriors. One such print portrays Tanenaga’s legendary battle, capturing his unwavering bravery.
For the 8.5oz heavyweight loopwheeled fabric, Samurai uses only high-quality raw cotton, spun into thick, irregular 14-thread yarns. The fabric is meticulously knitted on a vintage "Daimaruki" loopwheel machine (producing about 1 meter of fabric per hour), a machine that was widely used in Japan during the first half of the 20th century.
Among the variety of Japanese loopwheel fabrics, this heavyweight knit stands out for its substantial weight, smooth softness, and remarkable texture, earning it the prestigious rank of Yokozuna.
