The Buzz Rickson’s Gold Tiger Camouflage Jacket faithfully reproduces one of the most iconic camouflage garments of the Vietnam War era. In the 1960s, the U.S. Military Procurement Office in Japan commissioned camouflage uniforms from Japanese manufacturers—drawn by their advanced printing techniques, rapid output, and cost efficiency. Because each factory developed its own interpretation, countless variations of the Tiger Stripe pattern were born, making every version distinct.
Most early examples were printed in Japan, with fabrics later sewn in Okinawa, Thailand, and Vietnam as the war expanded. Introduced in March 1965, the Tiger Stripe was designed to help soldiers blend into the dense Vietnamese jungle, where visibility and silence meant survival.
Made from cotton twill with precise period printing, this jacket captures the texture and depth of the original. Functional sleeve pocket once held cigarettes or water purification tablets, small but essential details that define the authenticity of this Buzz Rickson’s reproduction.
