The design of the T-shirt pays homage to Konohana Sakuya Hime, a goddess from Japanese mythology often described as the most beautiful of all goddesses. She is still revered today in a shrine on Mount Fuji, Japan's most famous mountain, symbolizing beauty and transience.
The 7oz ripened cotton inlay knit fabric is an original Samurai fabric and likely unique worldwide in terms of softness and comfort. To achieve this, the cotton is aged for 50 days in a greenhouse at a constant temperature before spinning the yarns, allowing the fibers to relax to the softness and fluffiness akin to just after harvest.
In Wakayama, the ripened cotton yarns are knitted on old loopwheel machines in a circular manner. Typically, these old tubular knitting machines take about an hour to produce approximately 1 meter of fabric. However, for the particularly demanding inlay knitting, the machines run even slower, producing only about 48 cm of fabric per hour. It may all sound very technical, but the wearing experience of these T-shirts is truly unforgettable.
