Samurai Jeans Heavyweight ‘Contest’ Flannel Shirt

The pattern of this super-heavy Samurai flannel shirt was the winner of the "April Truth Flannel" contest – a global fan survey held in 2023 to submit ideas for a flannel design.

The colors of the checkered pattern are inspired by traditional Japanese natural dye shades, such as indigo, clay, persimmon fruit, and sumi ink. The heavy and, most importantly, characterful flannel fabric was exclusively made for Samurai in Niigata Prefecture, the birthplace of yarn-dyed fabrics. The fabric threads were spun from very thick, heavy yarns that are typically used only for heavy denim fabrics. Additionally, the warp consists of two of these extra-thick threads, and the weft is made from irregular slub yarns, which give the fabric its incredible texture.
