21oz indigo-dyed Sashiko fabric – you read that right! This limited-edition work shirt is the crown jewel of this year’s Iron Heart fall collection.
This ultra-heavy Sashiko fabric is woven using old Jacquard looms, with the Sashiko stitch being an integral part of the intricate weaving process. The deep blue of the indigo threads is brought to life by the immense texture of the Sashiko fabric, showcasing its natural irregularities in an unparalleled way.
Sashiko means “little stabs” and is a traditional Japanese folk embroidery that dates back to the 17th century. Originally, it wasn’t just used for decorative purposes, but also to repair and reinforce worn fabrics, especially workwear. The technique involves running stitches, traditionally done by hand, to create aesthetically pleasing geometric patterns on the fabric while simultaneously reinforcing the weave for added durability. Over time, Sashiko evolved into a highly regarded art form that blends functionality with beauty.
