The woodblock-inspired design of this Samurai T-shirt features the legendary Daimyo Toshiie Maeda with his 6.3-meter-long spear. The 1,000,000 koku refers to the amount of rice his lands were said to produce annually, serving not only as a measure of quantity but also as an indicator of a military commander's power during the Edo period. 1,000,000 koku was by far the largest production in all of Japan, while weaker Daimyo might have produced between 10,000 and 100,000 koku from their lands.
For the 8.5oz heavyweight loopwheeled fabric, Samurai uses only high-quality raw cotton spun into thick, irregular 14-thread yarns. The fabric is knitted on a vintage tubular knitting machine called "Daimaruki" (about 1 meter of fabric per hour), which was widely used in Japan in the first half of the 20th century.
Among the variety of Japanese loopwheel fabrics, the heavyweight, yet smoothly soft and remarkably textured knit has more than earned its rank as Yokozuna.
