Studio D’Artisan captures the softness, depth, and elegance of traditional Japanese colors in an unparalleled Sashiko fabric, creating an incredibly beautiful pair of pants.
Kakishibu-zome is a more than 900-year-old traditional dyeing technique from the Heian period. It's said that samurai and mountain priests wore reddish-brown clothing dyed with persimmon tannin, which changed its color when exposed to sunlight and air. Sun-dyeing or patina remains closely intertwined with the lives of Japanese people to this day.
The Studio D‘Artisan Kakishibu Sashiko jeans impresses not only with its beautifully modern and easily combinable fit, but even more so with its original 14oz Sashiko selvedge denim. The traditional "Kakishibu dyeing" combines persimmon juice (for the weft) and highly concentrated indigo (for the warp), preserving the original texture of Sashiko.
