Studio D’Artisan’s Tsugihagi Sashiko Shirt is a visual and tactile tribute to traditional Japanese repair culture. Drawing from the concept of “Tsugihagi” (the craft of piecing together worn garments), this shirt blends heritage with textile innovation in a classic workwear silhouette.
Woven from 12oz indigo yarn-dyed Sashiko Jacquard, the fabric combines two shades of indigo and multiple stitch-like patterns, mimicking the layered texture of vintage Boro cloth. Each patch-like section features distinct woven motifs with vertical and horizontal Sashiko threads, designed to shift and pucker after washing. The result is a three-dimensional surface that ages over time, echoing the beauty of lived-in garments.
The clear and solid construction underlines the intricate all-over patterning and ensuring the shirt stands out quietly. This piece is as much about storytelling as it is about wearability.
